The Lagos Medieval festival "Feira Quinhentista" will take place in November this year (2010) and will be the culmination of a national calendar of events celebrating the 550th anniversary of Infante Dom Henrique. Prince Henry the Navigator, as he was otherwise known, died on November 13th 1460 in Sagres where he had founded his school of Navigation. Lagos has always had a strong association with the Prince as his "Voyages of the Discoveries" set off from there in the newly designed Caravelas.
The festival is great fun - the centre of Lagos turns into a jousting arena, a platform for "medieval" musicians to entertain, a medieval market place and general entertainment. There is also normally a historical parade along the Avenida dos Descobrimentos on one of the days during the festival. With it being such an important anniversary this year's festival will no doubt be the best yet.
There will be more details about the festival nearer the time - so watch this space and we'll keep you informed!
