Expedia recommends for July: the Algarve!
How brilliant for the Algarve to make the featured place of choice in Expedia's "Destinations perfect for travel in July! Of course we totally agree (in fact, being completely biased, we recommend the Algarve for every month of the year) but how wonderfu to see that our little stretch of southern Portugal coastline, has beaten some stiff competiton to get the July spot!
Upon reading the article, it is great to see mention of the idyllic rural Caldas de Monchique, the often neglected eastern Algarve resort of Vila Real de Santo António and the Algarve's largest castle, "Castelo de Silves". But we point out a couple of 'discrepancies' in the text...the beer festival in Silves in July sadly doesn't take place now (whether or not it will return we don't know) and the temperature chart is somewhat misleading...those temperatures are actually air temperatures and in July you can actually expect sun temperatures of between 35-40°C! Oh, a little warning about the Medronho that Monchique has become famous for...saying "made by distilling the juice of wild berries" almost makes it sound like something you would find in a juice bar, but Medronho has been known to knock grown men off their feet after just a few and locally it is known as "firewater"; it is well worth trying, but proceed with caution and don't be surprised if your eyes water a little!
