Over the last couple of weeks we have been busy contacting restaurants and bars across the Algarve to find out if they are going to be open over Christmas and / or New Year, and if so, are they laying on anything special for the festive period. We have created a new Christmas page to sit in full view of our visitors on the top navigation (which you can also visit here!) and we will continue to update it as we find out more information and hear back from other businesses.
You can rest assured that if you are thinking of enjoying the festive period in the Algarve, you will not be disappointed! Christmas is quite 'low key' and a family affair, with the main celebrations being on Christmas Eve night and Christmas Day being a day to relax with family. Boxing Day is not a holiday here. There will still be plenty of places open to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but some restaurants will close by about 6pm on 24th and will reopen on the 27th. New Year is when the real celebrations happen, with parties and fireworks organised in all the main resorts, and the atmosphere will be fantastic because the Portuguese people love to party at New Year! Restaurants and bars will definitely be open, many with extended opening hours.
