Carnival time is here again with parades both big and small taking place across the Algarve between 17th and 21st February. The rhythms of the carnival music, glamorously dressed dancers, jugglers and acrobats, floats with a humorous or satirical theme - all come together in Algarve carnivals. The most famous carnival in Loulé will be poking more than a little fun at "Troika and the Crisis" complete with "Sarkozy" and "Merkel" and Portuguese Prime Minister, "Pedro Passos Coelho", aboard the floats!

Volta ao Algarve Cycle Race. February 15th to 19th sees the return of the Algarve Cycle Race with stages from Castro Marim to Portimão. Top riders taking part this year include Alberto Contador, Bradley Wiggins, Simon Gerrans, Tiago Machado and Tony Martins.
38th International Carnival Sailing Tournament. The tournament takes place at Vilamoura between 18th and 20th February and classes include Optimist, F18, Dart 18, and Laser classes, Formula Windsurf and also the Iberian Championships for Kitesurf, 420 and Snipe.
Parachuting Freefly Portugal Cup takes place on 11th and 12th of the month at Portimão Municipal Aerodrome and the weather forecast is for clear blue skies so visibility should be good!
10th Tivoli Terras do Infante Roller Skating Tournament will be in Lagos from 18th to 20th February. It is the first European competition of the year and last year's event saw around 300 skaters from 40 clubs from10 different countries taking part. The Avenida dos Descobrimentos along the water front is the place to catch the action.
