Summer Events in the Algarve 2011

The Algarve has a huge variety of events planned for Summer 2011! As well as the many events co-ordinated by the local councils across the Algarve, the Algarve tourist board is organising the special Allgarve Summer Events Programme, ensuring that Summer 2011 in the Algarve is going to be brilliant! As details of concerts, sports events, festivals and beach parties are announced we will add the information here as well as to the individual events calendars on the resort guides.

• Fiesa 2011 at Pêra April 15th to October 15th. This is be the 9th International Sand Sculpture Festival to be held at Pêra and the theme is "Animal Kingdom". The sculptures are formed from 35,000 tons of sand and displayed over an area of 15,000 square meters. It is open from 10am to midnight with free sand sculpture activities for all ages 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 9pm. At night the sculptures are illuminated along with a varied programme of entertainment.
• Algarve's Water Festival: 3rd to 5th June in Estoi, near Faro. 4th: Farra Fanfarra. 5th: Rockestra in Largo da Liberdade at 9.30/10pm
• Lamb in concert 10th June at the Arade Congress Centre in Lagoa 10pm
• Summer Parade in Albufeira (Av.Sá Carneiro / The Strip and Areias de São João) on 11th June from 10pm promises a night of surprises full of colour, light and sound with street artists and mult-media creating a unique show
• Mafalda Arnauth in concert on 18th June at 10pm in Lagoa Auditorium. Her latest disc is called "Fadas"... a tribute to the women who have influenced her musical style. Tickets 15€
• Portimão Portugal Match Cup 21st to 26th June at Portimão Marina - Part of the World Match Racing Tour circuit.
• Festival Med in Loulé June 22nd to 25th. This is the eighth edition of Festival Med - one of the most highly regarded festivals of world music. The historic centre of Loulé will come alive with a whole variety of music - soul, jazz, flamenco, afro-blues, fado, bossa nova and hip hop. In previous years more than 20,000 people have visited the city throughout the five days of the festival and this year's promises to be even better! Apart from the five stages for the musicians there will be displays of arts and crafts, street theatre and different foods to try.
• Lagoa Jazz July at Sítio das Fontes, Lagoa. Omar Hakim, Rachel Z and Solomon Dorsey are performing on 1st July at 10pm. Tickets 12€
• 'Les Etoiles' by Company Les Colporteurs - Tight-wire artists. 1st July in Jardim Pescador Olhanense, Olhão; 2nd in Teatro das Figuras, Faro; 3rd in Praça do Mar, Quarteira; 4th in Jardim da Verbena, São Brás de Alportel; 5th in Praça da República, Tavira.
• Pipototal Street Theatre  with strange machines, circus artists, musicians and pyrotechnics! Tavira on 1st July at 22.00.
• London Gospel Choir in Silves Castle on 9th July at 10pm. Tickets 15€
• Bash Street Company inventive and fast-moving comic-strip street theatre in Tavira 13th and 14th July at 22.00
• Algarve Internacional Motorbike Meet 14th to 17th July in Faro. Always a hugely popular event attracting bikers from far and wide.
• Algarve Classic Cars is a major event in the Iberian Peninsula attracting some 170 classic cars. They will pass through the concelhos of Loulé, Albufeira, Silves, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel and Lagoa between 8th and 10th July.
• Viviane in concert 15th July at Jardim da Verbena in São Brás de Alportel at 9.30pm. Tickets 12€.
• Ivan Lins in concert at Grande Real Santa Eulália, Albufeira on 16th July at 10pm. Tickets 25€.
• Morcheeba on 22nd July at 10pm at the Arade Congress Centre, Parchal, Lagoa. Tickets 25€
• Celebrating Andrew Lloyd Webber 23rd July in Vale do Lobo at 10pm. Tickets 20€. The Orquestra do Algarve, Sofia Escobar and John Addison will perform many of Andrew Lloyd Webber's compositions
• Loulé International Jazz Festival 28th to 30th July with Maria João and the Matosinhos Jazz Orchestra, Richard Galliano Group and the Aaron Parks Quartet at Cerca do Convento at 22.00
• Sarruga street theatre company creates an amazing spectacular with gigantic animated insects! Olhão on 29th July at 10pm.
• Tocander brings carnival percussion up to date. Odeceixe 30th July and Monchique 31st July
• La Charanga Habanera (Cuban band) in Monte Gordo on the waterfront on 1st August at 10pm. Free
• Desbundixie reviving Dixieland jazz! Aljezur 2nd August, Carrapateira 3rd August, Burgau 4th August, Praia da Salema 5th August
• The Human League in concert in Portimão on 4th August at 10pm. Tickets 25€
• Carlos do Carmo - Sings Frank Sinatra on 11th August at Convento das Bernardas in Tavira at 10pm. Tickets 15€
• Baby Lores (Cuban composer and singer) in Monte Gordo on the waterfront on 13th August at 10pm. Free
• Silves Medieval Festival 9th to 15th August. Silves provides the perfect setting for this festival - a must do event!
• Kumpania Algazarra - a fusion of music from around the world. Aljezur 15th August, Odeceixe 16th August and Sagres 17th August
• Rui Veloso in concert on 17th August at Quartel da Atalaia, Tavira at 10pm. Tickets 20€
• "Sons Ardentes" in Praça dos Pescadores, Albufeira on 20th August at 10pm. Classical music from the Orquestra do Algarve accompanied by pirotechnic and multimedia displays make for a spectacular show.
• FATACIL: 19th to 28th August in Lagoa at the Fairs and Exhibitions Park. This huge fair is about all the Algarve has to offer - tourism, crafts, agriculture, commerce and industry. There is also lots of entertainment every day with a concert every night and of course, no fair would be complete without food! Regional gastronomy for everyone to try.
• Duran Duran in concert at CS Herdade dos Salgados Resort, Albufeira 26th August at 22.00. Tickets 25€
• Castro Marim Medieval Days 25th to 28th August. Castro Marim will transform into a medieval stage, recreating various experiences from life in the Middle Ages, including tournaments, traditional games, street entertainment, medieval crafts and other traditional shows. History brought to life.
• Carminho in concert on 26th August at Fabrica Balsense, Tavira at 10pm. Tickets 15€
• Bestiario street theatre spectacular 29th August at 10pm in Praça D.Henrique, Lagos
• Cataplana Experience 31st August to 3rd September at Vilamoura Marina
• Portugal Masters Golf Tournament: October 13th to 16th at Oceânico Victoria Golf Club, Vilamoura.
