To get to Faro train or bus station (which are close to each other just before Faro marina) either get the bus from the airport (the stop is right outside the ‘arrivals’ doors) and will cost you around 1.95€, or get a taxi at a cost of around 10€. To check train timetables visit CP – Comboios de Portugal. (the site is available in English) and select ‘Regional and Inter Regional services’ to get the timetable for Lagos/Vila Real de Santo António/Lagos.

For bus timetables visit Eva Bus. Again most of it is available in English except the ‘frequency’ on the tables. (Days of the week: Monday is the 2nd day of the week – ‘2as’-and Friday is the 6th day. ‘Sábado’ and ‘Domingo’ – Saturday and Sunday; ‘Feriados’ is holidays; ‘Diariamente’ is daily,). Bus times from the ‘aeroporto’ to Faro are also listed .

Tavira Supermakets

Tavira Tourist Train

Tavira Tourist TrainTavira tourist train runs all year round and departs from the left bank of the river near to the roman bridge. It is not only a great way to to get around but also helps visitors to get a feel for Tavira when they first arrive.

The train has stops at Vila Galé hotel, Quatro Águas (for the ferry to Tavira beach ilha), Tavira castle / Camera Obscura (waits here for 10 minutes), Porta Nova hotel and back to the bridge. The round trip takes an hour. 

The first train leaves at 10am and runs on the hour (apart from 1pm lunchbreak). The last departure is 7pm in the winter. 8pm from April to mid July and 11pm from mid July to end August (dinner break at 8pm).

The price of a ticket is around 3.50€



Gran-Plaza Shopping Centre in Tavira

Gran-Plaza has 2 floors of shops and plenty of free underground parking. It really is a massive shopping centre with a wide variety of shops as well as a large Continente supermarket and 5 screen cinema showing all the latest films in english. You can see the current cinema programme Zon Lusomundo. It is undercover apart from a large terrace outside the food hall on the first floor and the shops are very spacious and airy, so even on a hot day it is very comfortable to walk around.

Directions to Gran-Plaza in Tavira

Approaching from the Vila Real side of town take a left turn at the first roundabout (Quinta do Morgado is on the right) and you will see Gran-Plaza and Continente just a short distance down the road. From the town side of Tavira cross the long bridge (Av. dos Descobrimentos) then turn right and it’s on the left hand side – Continente supermarket is easily visible from the bridge.
