Walk down through the village
Follow the village streets towards the beach and notice how the houses rise up the slopes behind it. Burgau’s setting is part of its character: the walk down to the water and the climb back create a different experience from a flat beachfront resort. Take a small loop first, then return another way once you know the streets. An unhurried village walk fits easily around lunch or an afternoon on the sand.
Spend time by the fishing beach
VisitPortugal describes the eastern end of the beach as retaining a fishing role. Give working boats and equipment space and choose your beach spot with the access routes in mind. A beach day here can remain simple: arrive with what you need, settle in one part of the bay and walk back into the village for a break. You do not need a packed programme to enjoy the setting.
Use the wider coastal landscape
The municipality’s BispoGO landscape project includes Burgau alongside sites elsewhere in Vila do Bispo. It is a useful starting point for choosing a cultural or landscape outing rather than simply driving between beaches. If a coastal walk interests you, select an established route from the walking network and read its access notes. A visible track on a cliff is not automatically the best route for a casual stroll.
Choose one contrasting day out
Lagos offers a larger town, museums and a marina; Praia da Luz offers another beach-centred village; the Sagres area brings a different headland landscape. Pick one according to what your group would enjoy and organise the return before setting out. Keeping these as distinct excursions makes Burgau a restful base, rather than a place you pass through while trying to cover every corner of the western Algarve.
