Choose the final area first
Central Portimão, Praia da Rocha and properties towards Alvor need different last legs. Ask the accommodation for its actual entrance and arrival instructions, then compare your transport options against that address. A booking described as Portimão may not be convenient on foot from the station. If you expect to arrive after dark, save the details offline so the last part does not depend on finding a route with luggage.
Use rail where it fits the itinerary
CP’s Algarve regional line serves Portimão and connects it with other towns on the corridor. If coming from Lisbon by rail, investigate the complete connection through the mainline network rather than assuming a direct train to the coast. Read the correct travel day and allow enough time for changes. On arrival, continue by a suitable local bus, taxi or walk according to the real property address.
Include the airport-to-town link
From Faro Airport, public-transport information helps establish the first connection out of the terminal. An itinerary beginning at Faro station omits that leg and the time needed for baggage. Add the wait for the regional service and the final local journey in Portimão before comparing the total with a direct transfer. For several travellers, the simplest route may be competitive once every separate ticket and connection is included.
Compare coaches, transfers and a car
Coach options can be useful from Lisbon or other Algarve places, provided the stops and date fit your plan. A private transfer can simplify an airport arrival with children or equipment. A hire car is more useful for a stay involving dispersed beaches and inland excursions than for days spent entirely in one coastal area. Confirm parking and unloading before choosing it, and allow room for rental return again on departure.
