What to expect
Burro Verde combines a home for rescued donkeys with experiences in the Aljezur countryside and Costa Vicentina. The operator’s current programme describes walks in which donkeys accompany the group and carry bags, with guided Amoreira outings following either a coastal or a riverside route. The attraction is spending time with the animals and moving through the landscape at a walking pace, rather than collecting rides or shows in a conventional park.
Choose the outing around the least confident walker. Even the shorter Amoreira option is described as a proper hike over uneven natural ground, so it should not be confused with a brief paved stroll suitable for every pushchair. Contact the sanctuary before arriving: its own visitor instructions ask for visits to be requested in advance, and routes or dates may need to be arranged. Ask directly about children, any riding conditions and the specific route rather than assuming every donkey experience is the same. Animal care and the guide’s directions should determine how the family interacts with the donkeys.
