Summer for time centred on the beach

A summer stay suits a holiday organised around Meia Praia, Dona Ana or Porto de Mós, with the old town filling the evenings. Build shade and a break from the sun into longer beach days. An inland temperature forecast is not a promise about comfort on an exposed stretch of coast. Wind, cloud and the time you plan to spend beside the water can change what clothing or shelter feels useful.

Spring for a mix of town and coastal walking

Spring is a sensible season to consider when your plan combines the historic centre with walks around the headland. Give yourself options rather than making every day depend on lying on the beach. A museum visit and a waterfront lunch can sit alongside a shorter coastal outing. Pack footwear for established paths and a light layer you can put on at a breezy viewpoint, even when the town feels pleasant.

Autumn for a flexible coastal break

For an autumn visit, build an itinerary with both outdoor and indoor choices. A calm day might suit Ponta da Piedade or a coastal boat trip; a less settled one can become a town day. Decide whether swimming is essential to your holiday before choosing dates late in the season. Pool heating and other accommodation facilities are property-specific, so they should be part of your booking comparison if the beach is less central to the plan.

Winter for the town and the landscape

Winter can work for a stay focused on Lagos itself, with coastal scenery as a welcome addition when conditions allow. Choose accommodation that is comfortable indoors and convenient for meals without a long exposed walk. Keep the headland visit flexible around wind and rain, and use daylight sensibly for unfamiliar paths. A beach photograph can look inviting in any season, but it says little about how long you will want to sit beside the water.

Read the conditions for the activity

IPMA provides locality forecasts and a separate climate-normal reference for understanding longer-term patterns. For a walk, pay attention to wind and rain as well as temperature; for a boat outing, sea conditions matter too. Let the operator decide whether a booked departure can run. Select the Lagos forecast rather than treating a forecast for a different Algarve town as exact, and keep a sheltered town option ready for a change of plan.
