What to expect
Tavira’s science centre occupies Convento do Carmo and focuses on experiments children can work through themselves. The permanent “Faz, Aprende!” exhibition is organised around mathematical challenges, the physics of sound, and water and energy. Examples include making sound with a theremin and pedalling to generate enough energy to light bulbs. The point is to observe what happens and change your approach, making it especially suitable for a family that enjoys puzzles and trying things together.
The centre also describes experimental laboratory activities as part of its offer, with additional family and holiday programmes advertised separately. When planning a particular day, distinguish a general exhibition visit from a themed workshop or event with its own booking conditions. The indoor setting gives Tavira visitors an alternative to island beaches in wet weather or intense heat, while keeping the outing connected to the town. It is a science centre rather than a large amusement park: allow children time with a handful of experiments instead of looking for rides or a full day of continuous entertainment.
