For things to do on a family holiday to the Algarve, Praia da Luz ticks every box of the simple pleasures holiday checklist! There’s a great beach with rock pools and water sports, restaurants, bars and shops on the doorstep and it’s within easy reach of other family attractions and places for sightseeing.
“Luz” is just a 10 minute drive away from the town of Lagos, where there is a fantastic mix of modern marina life and historical sightseeing. There are boat trips, a huge choice of water sports, a tourist train and activities such as mountain biking. Zoo Lagos is also just on the outskirts in Barão de São João and it is a fantastic day out for the whole family! A bit further west there is also the “Kartódromo” go-kart track at the Autódromo race track at Mexilhoeira Grande, Portimão, where there is also a great annual programme of motor sports events.
For golf lovers there are several excellent golf courses in the western Algarve area, the closest being Boavista and Espiche Golf. There are also lots of other sports facilities in the area, for example tennis courts, a municipal leisure centre in Lagos and a sports centre in Burgau (with tennis and squash).
