Summer for the simplest beach routine
Summer is the natural period to consider for a holiday concentrated on the bay. Choose accommodation that makes the daily route to the sand easy, and plan shade and breaks during long days outside. The waterfront and higher exposed routes can feel different from a protected village street. Carry a layer for later in the day rather than judging the whole evening by the temperature beside the accommodation at lunchtime.
Spring for village life and walking
A spring stay can combine Luz with coastal outings and a day exploring Lagos. Plan around activities you enjoy without needing a perfect beach afternoon every day. Choose a walking route that fits your ability and pay attention to wind on exposed stretches. A shorter outing with an easy return can be more enjoyable than a long walk designed around summer daylight. Keep a comfortable indoor base for evenings and less settled periods.
Autumn and winter for flexible plans
Outside the main beach season, choose Luz because you want the village setting and access to the western Algarve. Compare properties for indoor comfort as carefully as for outdoor space. If swimming is important, ask specifically about a heated pool and its operation for your dates. Build a few town or road outings into the itinerary, and allow sea activities to move to a suitable day instead of making them the only focus of a short break.
Understand what a forecast tells you
IPMA offers local forecasts and longer-term climate references. They answer different questions: seasonal context helps choose dates, while the local forecast helps choose tomorrow’s outing. Read wind and rain alongside air temperature, and follow beach flags for the water. Conditions can differ along the coast, so do not treat a forecast for a distant Algarve town as an exact description of Luz. Leave the day’s final beach choice until you know what conditions suit the group.
