About the course
Penina’s Academy Course is the nine-hole short layout threaded between the estate’s Championship and Resort courses. Its par 30 design was created for short-game development and learning, with a different scale from either of its neighbours. At 1851 metres, it provides a compact playing format rather than a full championship round. The Academy Course is temporarily closed, so golfers staying around Alvor and Portimão should choose another playing option at Penina instead of arranging a visit specifically for these nine holes.
The 18-hole Championship Course and nine-hole Resort Course remain separate choices on the same estate, with different playing requirements. Penina’s teaching academy also offers a driving range, putting and chipping greens, a practice bunker and instruction. A lesson or practice session uses those facilities rather than this closed short course. Beginners can ask the golf team about tuition followed by suitable play on the Resort Course, where a handicap is not required. No reopening date has been announced for the Academy Course itself.
