About the course
The Penina Resort Course is the estate’s shorter playing option, with nine physical holes rather than another full 18-hole layout. Its published 18-hole format uses two sets of tees on the same nine, so visitors should understand which format they are reserving. Sir Henry Cotton designed the course as a setting for learning and developing golf while retaining lakes and bunkers that ask experienced players to make proper decisions. It is a useful course to investigate for a shorter round when staying around Alvor or Portimão.
The operator states that a handicap is not required here, which clearly distinguishes it from Penina’s Championship Course. That does not remove the normal requirements for golf clothing, soft spikes and considerate play. Beginners may find a lesson before a round more useful than immediately booking the longer repeated-nine format. Golf reception can arrange the appropriate playing option and advise about hire equipment. The Resort Course is also a different layout from the Penina Academy Course, which is temporarily closed. Choose the Resort Course explicitly when arranging a shorter round at the estate.
