About the course
The Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course is the main 18-hole layout at Penina, on the estate inland from Alvor and west of Portimão. The par 73 design places streams, ditches and other water hazards alongside fairways, with raised greens and subtle changes of level adding to the approach shots. It is a full golf-day choice rather than a short introduction to the sport. Penina’s golfing history makes the name familiar, but it remains important to identify the Championship Course when requesting a reservation.
The same estate contains the separate nine-hole Resort Course and the temporarily closed Academy Course. They should not be treated as interchangeable products: handicap requirements for the Championship are different from those of the Resort Course. The hotel offers golf packages, while the golf operation also publishes visitor information and equipment options. Golfers should arrange the particular course, tee time and any hire needs together. Practice facilities include a driving range, putting and chipping greens and a bunker area; these are shared training facilities rather than extra bookable course layouts.
