About the course
Vale do Lobo’s Ocean Course brings together two of the original nine-hole layouts designed by Sir Henry Cotton. It is now one 18-hole course, with a sequence that moves through the resort towards the coast. The later holes give the Ocean name its clearest meaning, with the fifteenth running beside the beach. This is a different coastal experience from the Royal Course’s famous cliff carry, so golfers should choose between the layouts by the kind of round they want rather than assuming they cover the same holes.
The resort golf operation accepts visitors and provides direct tee-time reservations. Royal and Ocean are distinct bookings despite sharing the Vale do Lobo name, and both require a valid handicap certificate under the published visitor terms. If arranging two rounds, ask for one on each course rather than an unspecified resort package. Golfers staying in Almancil or Quinta do Lago can also use their existing holiday base, with travel to the golf reception arranged separately. The beachside holes belong to the course, so non-playing companions should plan their own public beach visit rather than walk onto the fairways.
