What to expect

São Salvador developed from an older church into a three-nave Renaissance building. The municipal museum draws attention to its columns, capitals and portal, connecting their craftsmanship with the Tavira workshop of André Pilarte.

The church fits into a compact walk through Alcoutim, but deserves a closer look than a passing photograph from the river. Its parish use remains important, so enjoy the stonework and setting first and take an interior visit when the church is receiving visitors.
