A day at Praia do Garrão.
Garrão is a long sandy beach between the Vale do Lobo and Ancão areas. It has two named sectors, Garrão Poente and Garrão Nascente, so the first useful decision is which entrance and beach restaurant you want. Both belong to the same stretch of coast, but they should not be treated as a single pick-up point.
Near the developed entrances, a beach day can roll easily into a meal by the sea. Further along, the sand gives the outing a more open feel. The dunes and coastal vegetation are part of the setting, and the formal walkways let you enjoy them without trampling the fragile ground.
Parking & arrival
Follow signs for the particular Garrão sector you intend to use. Parking serves the beach approaches, but arrangements differ between entrances; use the signs at that car park rather than assuming one tariff covers the whole beach.
The route to the sand
The road approach is through the Almancil and resort area. Cross the dunes on the designated wooden walkways, keeping the named Nascente or Poente entrance as your meeting point.
Accessibility
VisitPortugal lists Garrão as an accessible beach. Access provision is tied to individual entrances and concessions, so choose a suitable walkway rather than assuming the whole frontage has the same route.
Facilities at the beach
- Showers
- Beach bars
- Restaurants
- Sunshade hire
The national tourism board lists beach support and rentals. Availability varies by concession; the long open sand beyond them is not continuously serviced.
The water & lifeguards
Bathing and water-sport areas may be separated. Follow the flags at your chosen sector and do not assume that nearby activity operators or restaurants provide supervision.
Lifeguard supervision is seasonal and applies to the signed bathing area. Follow the flags and instructions displayed at that beach.
