A day at Praia do Zavial.

Zavial sits east of Ingrina on the south coast, with a longer stretch of sand enclosed by cliffs. It is well known to surfers, but its shape, rock formations and beach restaurant also make it a rewarding place to spend time ashore. The sea’s appearance can change considerably with the swell.

Use the main access as the centre of your plans. The western approach has the parking and support facilities, while a walk along the sand takes you away from them. If you want a day that combines a swim, a meal and time with children, it is more practical to settle into one suitable part of the bay than to move repeatedly between the rocky ends.

Parking & arrival

The main approach follows a paved road to a small paved car park. The council records about 31 marked spaces, making the timing of a busy summer visit worth considering.

The route to the sand

A boardwalk and a short stairway form the pedestrian approach. Use the designated entrance and plan for soft sand after the walkway ends.

Accessibility

The main route contains a small flight of steps. We have not confirmed an alternative continuous step-free route or assisted bathing service.

Facilities at the beach

  • Parking
  • Toilets
  • Beach café/restaurant

The council lists a café-restaurant with toilets at the main approach. This service point does not extend along every part of the beach.

The water & lifeguards

Surf conditions can produce powerful breaking waves. Follow the bathing flags and the separation between swimmers and board riders; stay clear of cliff bases and avoid entering caves or gaps as the tide rises.

Vila do Bispo Council lists a bathing season from 1 June to 30 September, with lifeguards during that period. Outside it, do not assume supervised bathing.
