What to expect
The Carmo church belongs to Tavira’s Carmelite history and has an interior where carved altarpieces, paintings and the organ form a richly worked ensemble. Its decorative character makes it a useful contrast to the more restrained São Paulo church.
Come to the church itself rather than expecting every part of the former convent to be a religious visitor site. Largo do Carmo works as a separate point in a north-bank church walk; access to the interior follows the parish and building’s own arrangements.
