A day at Praia da Armona.
Armona offers two different waterside settings: the lagoon-facing landing and the ocean beach across the island. For the open-sea beach, make time to walk through the settlement and continue over the designated dune route. It is an outing to enjoy on foot, with a ferry crossing at either end of the day.
The small community has restaurants, and the island’s broad sand invites a less hurried beach day. Choose the serviced ocean entrance first if facilities matter, then decide how far you want to wander. The eastern end used for Fuseta boat crossings is a separate beach approach, not another name for the Olhão arrival point.
Parking & arrival
Park on the mainland in Olhão and continue to the passenger ferry terminal. There is no visitor car park beside the ocean beach on Armona.
The route to the sand
Take the passenger ferry from Olhão to Armona, then follow the pedestrian route through the settlement to the ocean side. Keep to formal paths through the dunes.
Accessibility
An island ferry trip involves the boat, landing and a substantial onward walk. This guide does not promise wheelchair access over that whole journey; arrange assistance for the exact service if required.
Facilities at the beach
- Showers
- Beach bars
- Village restaurants
Showers and food are listed by VisitPortugal, but services are concentrated around the settlement and beach support area rather than the island’s full length.
The water & lifeguards
The sheltered-looking lagoon is not the same as a supervised sea-bathing area. Avoid boat channels, use the ocean beach’s flagged zone and allow time for the return walk to the ferry.
Lifeguard supervision is seasonal and applies to the signed bathing area. Follow the flags and instructions displayed at that beach.
