A day at Praia da Terra Estreita.

Terra Estreita sits east of Barril where Ilha de Tavira narrows between lagoon and ocean. Its main access is from Santa Luzia, so it makes sense to build the day around that village rather than around Tavira’s other island ferry routes. The name means narrow land, a useful picture of the setting before you arrive.

This is a beach for a simple island outing, with a bar and basic visitor support rather than a large developed frontage. Keep the return crossing in mind if you wander along the sand. Santa Luzia’s restaurants give you the option of eating in the village before or after the beach instead of carrying everything for a long day.

Parking & arrival

Tavira Council lists mainland street parking in Santa Luzia. Leave space for the waterfront’s working access and allow time to walk to the boarding point on Avenida Eng.º Duarte Pacheco.

The route to the sand

Take the authorised passenger boat from Santa Luzia and continue from the island landing to the ocean beach. Do not try to cross the lagoon on foot.

Accessibility

Tavira Council explicitly describes Terra Estreita as not adapted for visitors with reduced mobility. The boat and landing add separate constraints to the route onto the sand.

Facilities at the beach

  • Beach bar
  • Toilets
  • First-aid point

The council lists a beach bar, WC and a first-aid post. These belong to the serviced beach area and its operating season.

The water & lifeguards

Keep out of the tidal channels, follow the ocean beach’s flags and avoid extending a walk so far that the return to the boat becomes rushed.

Lifeguard supervision is seasonal and applies to the signed bathing area. Follow the flags and instructions displayed at that beach.
