A day at Praia de Benagil.

Benagil beach is the small coastal bay by the village, not the sand inside the famous sea cave. Fishing boats and excursion activity share its limited space. The limestone coast around it is a major attraction, but a beach day here and a cave visit are two different plans.

Use the village’s beach services for a pause by the sea, and keep the launch area clear. For any boat or guided paddle trip, establish the departure point and what is actually permitted before booking. A cave photograph showing people on the sand is not a promise that landing there is allowed today.

Parking & arrival

Outdoor parking is listed for Benagil. Use signed parking and allow for the pedestrian journey into the village; avoid stopping where the road narrows beside the beach.

The route to the sand

Approach the beach from Benagil village. The road and beach entrance are distinct from the cliff-top viewpoints and from the sea cave itself.

Accessibility

The visitor listing does not establish a continuous accessible route from parking to the sand. The approach through the village can be demanding for anyone avoiding slopes.

Facilities at the beach

  • Showers
  • Beach bar
  • Restaurant
  • Boat-trip departures

Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.

The water & lifeguards

Do not swim to the cave. The Maritime Authority prohibits swimming outside the bathing zones along this busy cave coast. Follow boat corridors and all restrictions on landing and cave access.

Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
