A day at Praia de Vale de Centeanes.

Vale de Centeanes is a beach below tall golden cliffs on the coast east of Carvoeiro. The setting is compact and dramatic, with the beach tucked between limestone faces. It is a natural alternative to Carvoeiro’s village beach when you want to spend more of the day looking at the coast.

There is a beach restaurant and a range of seasonal support services. The coastal walking landscape above the cove is a separate attraction: beach equipment, an afternoon on the sand and a long cliff walk do not make an easy single outing for every group. Decide which is the main purpose of your visit.

Parking & arrival

Outdoor parking is listed by VisitPortugal. Park in designated spaces serving the cove and retain enough energy for the final descent and the climb back.

The route to the sand

VisitPortugal describes a long stairway down to the beach. Use the designated access and avoid informal paths on the surrounding cliffs.

Accessibility

The published stair access is a significant consideration for wheelchairs, pushchairs and anyone who finds climbs difficult. Do not assume the parking area provides a level route to the sand.

Facilities at the beach

  • Showers
  • Beach bar
  • Restaurant
  • Sunshade hire
  • Small-craft hire

Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.

The water & lifeguards

Keep outside rockfall warning zones and away from cliff bases. Use the supervised bathing area rather than swimming between neighbouring coves.

Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
