A day at Praia do Carvalho.
Carvalho is one of the smaller coves on the coast east of Carvoeiro. Its enclosed sand and surrounding rock make a memorable setting, but the practical difference from the town beach is access. Lagoa’s municipal records describe it as difficult to reach, and beach parking is separated from the sand.
Treat the visit as a compact coastal outing with only what you can comfortably carry. Bring drinking water and food rather than relying on a full beach concession. A photograph of the bay is not evidence that an easy or accessible entrance exists, and this is a poor choice when your group needs a straightforward route back to the car.
Parking & arrival
Municipal records identify parking serving Carvalho in the Algarve Club Atlântico area. Use legal spaces and keep access roads clear. The walk to the sand remains part of the visit.
The route to the sand
The pedestrian descent is difficult and includes steps through the rock approach. Keep to the recognised beach access; cliff shortcuts are unsuitable.
Accessibility
There is no verified continuous step-free route. The confined, stepped access is not a practical wheelchair beach entrance. Carrying a pushchair down is also a substantial burden.
Facilities at the beach
A full set of permanent beach facilities has not been verified for this cove. Bring your own water and take litter out.
The water & lifeguards
Do not jump from the rocks or swim towards Benagil’s caves. The coastal area has rockfall hazards and vessel traffic outside the designated bathing beaches.
Carvalho is not included in the Maritime Authority’s published list of staffed Lagoa bathing beaches. Do not plan a swimming visit on the assumption that a lifeguard is stationed here.
