A day at Praia do Burgau.
Burgau’s sand sits directly below the village, with fishing boats and white houses making the setting feel closely connected to local life. It marks the eastern edge of the protected Costa Vicentina coastline. For visitors staying in the village, the short relationship between beach, streets and places to eat is a large part of its appeal.
The bay is compact, so a relaxed visit depends more on choosing your space well than on walking a long distance. The village streets slope, and the official entrance is a better route for beach gear than shortcuts between buildings. Leave room for fishing activity and keep the return route in mind as the tide changes.
Parking & arrival
The council lists a paved parking area of around 40 marked spaces. Use designated parking and follow village signs rather than driving down the steepest lanes in search of a space.
The route to the sand
The official pedestrian approach includes both steps and a ramp. The village streets and the sand still involve gradients and changing surfaces.
Accessibility
A ramp is listed, but we have not verified its gradient or a complete adapted route across the beach. Anyone avoiding steps should choose the official ramped entrance rather than a side lane.
Facilities at the beach
- Parking
- Toilets
- Beach café/restaurant
A café-restaurant with toilets is listed by the council, with more food options in the village. The compact beach is also a working coastal space.
The water & lifeguards
The tide can reduce the available sand considerably. Follow flags, stay clear of fishing operations and leave space below the cliffs rather than settling beneath them for shade.
Vila do Bispo Council lists a bathing season from 1 June to 30 September, with lifeguards during that period. Outside it, do not assume supervised bathing.
