A day at Praia do Castelo.
Castelo is a small beach among the limestone coves west of Albufeira. Large rocks divide the bay into corners, with one formation at the eastern end resembling castle battlements. The scenery gives it a more intimate feel than the long beaches of Galé and Salgados.
Come for the shape of the coastline and a beach day with a restaurant close by. Its small size means that tide and the area available outside rockfall zones matter as much as the total amount of sand in a photograph. Choose a safe sitting area in the open rather than using overhanging rock for shade.
Parking & arrival
Outdoor parking is listed by VisitPortugal. The signed paved approach branches from the Guia–Galé road. Use designated spaces without blocking the pedestrian route.
The route to the sand
Albufeira Council describes a wooden staircase down to the beach. Plan for steps in both directions, especially with beach equipment or a pushchair.
Accessibility
The published access includes wooden stairs. Do not treat this cove as a continuous step-free route from the car to the water.
Facilities at the beach
- Showers
- Beach bar
- Restaurant
- Sunshade hire
Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.
The water & lifeguards
Keep away from cliff bases and unstable rock formations. Do not enter caves or cross between coves on the assumption that the return will remain dry.
Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
