A day at Praia dos Três Castelos.
Três Castelos is the rock-framed beach west of Praia da Rocha, named for the formations that rise beside its sand. The viewpoint above the beach is part of its appeal, giving a broad view of stacks, arches and layered cliffs before you decide whether to descend.
The viewpoint stairs make this a different access choice from a main adapted beach entrance. If your aim is to photograph the coast, the designated viewpoint can provide the visit you want without carrying equipment down. For time on the sand, keep the return staircase in mind and leave a generous margin from the cliff faces.
Parking & arrival
Use designated parking in the surrounding resort streets and follow signs to the Três Castelos viewpoint and beach. We have not confirmed a dedicated parking tariff or capacity for this stairway entrance.
The route to the sand
The principal approach descends steps from the Três Castelos viewpoint. Do not assume there is a step-free route just because the wider beach inventory lists adapted facilities.
Accessibility
Visit Portimão lists accessible provision, but its described viewpoint approach is a staircase. An independently verified continuous step-free entrance is not established in this guide.
Facilities at the beach
- Toilets
- Showers
- Beach support
- First aid
- Seasonal sunshades
The local tourism inventory lists showers, toilets, first aid and sunshades. These are associated with the organised beach area and do not remove the stair access.
The water & lifeguards
Keep away from the cliffs, rock arches and cave mouths, where falling material is a risk. Do not rely on passing around rocks at low tide to reach or leave a neighbouring beach.
Lifeguard coverage is seasonal. Use the supervised bathing area when a lifeguard team and flags are operating; a visit outside the bathing season is a different proposition.
