What to expect
The Misericórdia church stands close to Arco da Vila and the Manuel Bívar gardens. Its Greek-cross plan gives it a different character from Faro’s longer, nave-led churches, and its position makes it a useful first stop before entering the walled quarter.
Leave room to look at the building itself rather than rushing straight through the arch. This is a short central-city stop that pairs well with the cathedral and waterfront gardens, with interior access following the church’s local arrangements.

Planning your visit
- The church is beside the old-town gateway, rather than inside the cathedral complex.
- Use the church entrance only when it is open to visitors.
