What to expect
São Francisco’s history is visible in fragments as well as in the surviving church. Gothic chapels remain beside the municipal garden, offering an outdoor way to understand the scale of the former religious complex.
The church and ruins form a heritage stop rather than an intact monastery tour. A municipal conservation project covers this historic ensemble, so focus on the spaces actually open to visitors and enjoy the garden-side remains without crossing work barriers or closed entrances.
