What to expect
São Paulo was the church of a convent that no longer survives as a complete complex. The building’s restrained architecture contrasts with more lavish churches elsewhere in Tavira, while its carved altarpieces and collection of sacred art reward a slower interior look.
Its square-side position makes it an easy church to include while exploring the north bank of the Gilão. Combine the exterior with a pause around the square, and treat any interior visit as its own stop rather than assuming the former monastery is open behind it.
