What to expect
Dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the church has origins around the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Much of the decorative impact comes from later additions: tiled walls, gilded altarpieces and painted ceiling coffers create a striking contrast with the sober façade.
The church stands in Vila do Bispo’s historic centre and belongs in a walk around the older streets. An adjoining collection of religious objects adds another dimension when available, but it should not be confused with a separate town museum.
