What to expect

The church dates from the period after the 1755 earthquake and has a three-aisled interior. Its neoclassical sanctuary altarpiece holds an image of Nossa Senhora de Alva, the dedication that distinguishes it from the town’s Misericórdia church.

Its location matters when arranging an Aljezur visit: Igreja Nova is a different part of town from the older hill and castle area. You can combine both churches in a wider town exploration, allowing for the journey between the two sides.
