Igreja de São Sebastião, Budens

Budens’s parish church brings a small inland village into a western-coast church trail, with an especially decorative eighteenth-century entrance.

What to expect

The church has been rebuilt and altered after successive earthquakes. Its portal bears the date 1762, while older stone fonts and a collection of religious images link the building with earlier periods of village devotion.

Budens is inland from Burgau and Salema, rather than on the beachfront. Make the church part of a look around the village, and keep its distinct identity in mind when comparing it with the nearby Santo António chapel.
