What to expect
São Sebastião occupies the site of a medieval chapel dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição. Later rebuilding produced a church with three naves, and the doorways reward a closer look at the transition between late Gothic and Renaissance work.
The church sits within the older town rather than on the beach strip. Make it part of a walk through central Lagos, with time for its architectural details and the small bone chapel when the visitor areas are available. It is a different visit from the museum-linked church of Santo António.
