A day at Meia Praia.

Meia Praia offers space and a broad horizon instead of the enclosed cliff scenery of Lagos’ southern coves. The sand extends east from the marina side of town towards the Alvor estuary, with several entrances along a long beach. It is a useful choice for visitors who want a walk by the sea or room for a less compact beach day.

Choose a named entrance or beach-support point before arranging a lift or taxi. A booking that simply says Meia Praia can leave you a considerable walk from the meeting point. The western approaches are convenient for Lagos’ marina and railway-station area, while a base farther east has a different relationship with town.

Parking & arrival

There are outdoor parking areas serving different sections of the beach. Select the entrance near your chosen support point and use designated spaces rather than stopping on dune or boardwalk access.

The route to the sand

Several formed entrances and boardwalks cross the dune margin. There is no single entrance that serves the entire beach equally well, so match the route to your plans.

Accessibility

The municipality and national tourism board list accessible beach provision. Use the adapted entrance and support point, since other dune crossings and the long stretch of loose sand differ.

Facilities at the beach

  • Parking
  • Showers
  • Beach cafés
  • Restaurants
  • Seasonal sunshades
  • Water-sport hire

Facilities are grouped around individual beach concessions. Being on Meia Praia does not mean showers, toilets or refreshments are immediately beside every section of sand.

The water & lifeguards

Keep clear of the Alvor estuary mouth and respect marked water-sport areas. A long beach offers many places to enter the sea, but the flagged supervised zone remains the appropriate starting point.

Lifeguard coverage is seasonal. Use the supervised bathing area when a lifeguard team and flags are operating; a visit outside the bathing season is a different proposition.
