A day at Praia de Porto de Mós.
Porto de Mós offers a larger sandy setting on the western side of Lagos’ headland. The beach has cliffs at its edges, but the main approach is different from the long stairways at Dona Ana and Camilo. It is a natural choice when you want a full beach outing rather than a short stop beside the old town.
Arrange transport to the beach entrance itself, since being in Lagos does not necessarily put your accommodation within a short walk of Porto de Mós. The developed approach gives the day a clear starting point for refreshments and facilities. If you add a clifftop walk, keep that separate from your essential beach access and use the designated paths.
Parking & arrival
Outdoor parking is available at the main beach approach. Follow the Porto de Mós beach signs and use marked spaces without blocking the ramps or service access.
The route to the sand
The principal entrance comes down to the developed support area and then onto the sand. Use it rather than approaching by cliff paths from another beach.
Accessibility
Lagos Council and Visit Portugal list accessible beach facilities. The designated entrance is the relevant route; the cliffs and loose sand elsewhere are not all step-free.
Facilities at the beach
- Parking
- Showers
- Beach cafés
- Restaurants
- Seasonal sunshades
Beach support and restaurants are grouped by the main entrance. Sunshade hire is seasonal, and a place farther along the sand may be a longer walk from services.
The water & lifeguards
Keep away from the bases of the high cliffs, including when looking for shade. Swell and currents change, so use the supervised flagged area instead of assuming the whole bay has the same conditions.
Lifeguard coverage is seasonal. Use the supervised bathing area when a lifeguard team and flags are operating; a visit outside the bathing season is a different proposition.
