A day at Praia da Falésia.
Falésia is the long strand beneath the red, copper and pale cliffs east of Olhos de Água. Its name is often used for a broad coastal stretch, but Açoteias and Alfamar have different entrances. That distinction matters when choosing a hotel, parking place or taxi drop-off.
The open sand makes a long beach walk tempting. Keep the return distance in mind, especially with children, and leave room between your beach position and the cliff face. This is a particularly rewarding landscape to see in changing light; you do not need to climb an eroded edge or stand under an overhang to enjoy it.
Parking & arrival
Outdoor parking is listed for Falésia. Choose the Açoteias or Alfamar access before leaving the car, because the beach name covers more than a single entrance.
The route to the sand
Açoteias is reached through Aldeia das Açoteias and has wooden stairs. The municipality describes a pedestrian approach and ramp for Alfamar. These are different routes onto the same long coastline.
Accessibility
The Açoteias approach includes stairs; Alfamar has a ramp approach. A ramp does not establish the condition of the entire route across sand or the availability of bathing assistance.
Facilities at the beach
- Showers
- Beach bar
- Restaurant
- Sunshade hire
- Small-craft hire
Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.
The water & lifeguards
Stay outside posted cliff-risk zones and keep back from the edges above. Use staffed bathing areas and do not judge sea conditions from the length of the beach.
Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
