A day at Praia da Oura.

Oura is the beach below one of Albufeira’s busiest holiday areas. At the western end, hotels and beach services dominate the backdrop; farther east, the coastline becomes rockier. It suits people who want restaurants and evening activity close to their beach base.

The route from accommodation matters more than the phrase “near Oura”. Streets inland climb away from the beach, and not every hotel entrance connects directly with the main public access. Choose a specific drop-off point if using a taxi. Once on the sand, stay with the main designated route rather than planning to reach a quieter corner by scrambling around the rocks.

Parking & arrival

Outdoor parking is listed, but use legal signed spaces in the resort area. The final approach serves beach traffic and pedestrians, so leave entrances and turning areas clear.

The route to the sand

The paved approach comes through Areias de São João. Albufeira Council lists stairs and a wooden ramp for reaching the sand.

Accessibility

VisitPortugal lists accessible provision. Use the marked ramp route and establish which entrance works for your accommodation; the resort’s hilly streets remain a consideration.

Facilities at the beach

  • Showers
  • Beach bar
  • Restaurant
  • Sunshade hire
  • Small-craft hire

Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.

The water & lifeguards

Use the supervised swimming zone and stay clear of water-sport launching areas. Rocks at the eastern end and changing tides can block an informal return route.

Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
