A day at Praia da Rocha Baixinha.

Rocha Baixinha occupies the eastern end of the Falésia coastline, close to Vilamoura marina. The high cliffs diminish into dunes here, creating a more open setting. The name covers west and east sections, and Praia dos Tomates is another name commonly used for part of this beach area.

The entrances are not interchangeable. Decide whether you want the beach-service area closest to the marina or a route through the Albufeira side before setting off. The dunes deserve as much care as the cliffs farther west: use the boardwalks and paths provided instead of crossing vegetation to reach an empty-looking patch of sand.

Parking & arrival

Outdoor parking is listed. The municipality describes access through the Açoteias area, including an unpaved final section for some entrances, and a paved route through Vilamoura for Nascente.

The route to the sand

Choose the exact entrance. Rocha Baixinha’s Albufeira-side approach can include an earth track; Nascente has access from Vilamoura and boardwalks through the dune area.

Accessibility

VisitPortugal lists accessible provision. Select the signed equipped entrance; an unpaved access road, a boardwalk and loose sand each present different mobility demands.

Facilities at the beach

  • Showers
  • Beach bar
  • Restaurant
  • Sunshade hire
  • Small-craft hire

Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.

The water & lifeguards

Keep clear of the marina and river-mouth breakwaters. Use the staffed bathing zone, stay on dune paths and respect any cliff-risk signs farther west.

Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
