A day at Praia do Forte Novo.
Forte Novo sits where Quarteira’s urban seafront meets a more natural dune landscape. Its name comes from a former coastal fortress, while the broad sand is the focus of a present-day visit. It offers a way to stay close to town services without choosing the busiest central stretch.
A beach day can include a promenade walk and a meal in Quarteira, with the dune edge providing a change of backdrop. Use the formal access through the equipped beach area and avoid walking on sensitive dune vegetation. If several people are arriving separately, agree on Forte Novo rather than the general name Quarteira beach.
Parking & arrival
VisitPortugal lists outdoor parking. Use designated parking serving the eastern waterfront and avoid informal parking on dune ground or service approaches.
The route to the sand
The official tourism record describes access and mobility provision at the town-to-dune transition. Take the marked public beach entrance from the waterfront area.
Accessibility
VisitPortugal describes mobility provision for all at Forte Novo. Use the signed route and establish the availability of sand walkways or bathing assistance rather than assuming every dune path is accessible.
Facilities at the beach
- Showers
- Beach bar
- Restaurant
- Sunshade hire
Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.
The water & lifeguards
Follow the flags and keep away from sea walls or drainage outlets when bathing. Use marked paths to protect the dunes and avoid trampling their vegetation.
Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
