A day at Praia dos Caneiros.
Caneiros lies around three kilometres from Ferragudo, in a bay enclosed by ochre cliffs. The large rock offshore and the tightly framed sand give it a particularly scenic setting. It is an open-coast beach, rather than the riverfront sand beside the village.
Beach services include a bar, restaurant and seasonal equipment hire. A meal can be part of the outing, but there is no need to turn lunch into a promise of a beach bed or parking space. Caneiros is a good choice when the landscape matters more than having a town promenade directly behind the sand.
Parking & arrival
Outdoor parking serves the beach. Follow the signed road from Ferragudo and park in permitted spaces, keeping the approach available for beach-service and emergency vehicles.
The route to the sand
Use the formal pedestrian approach from the beach parking area. The sand is below the surrounding cliffs; do not descend informal tracks around the headland.
Accessibility
The primary visitor record does not establish a continuous wheelchair route from parking to the water. Confirm the actual pedestrian approach if stairs or gradients are a barrier.
Facilities at the beach
- Showers
- Beach bar
- Restaurant
- Sunshade hire
- Small-craft hire
Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.
The water & lifeguards
Respect cliff warning signs and leave space below unstable faces. Rock gaps and neighbouring coves are not dependable walking routes as the tide changes.
Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
