A day at Praia Grande, Ferragudo.

Praia Grande is Ferragudo’s spacious beach by the mouth of the River Arade. The village sits behind it, with Portimão across the water. This is a different setting from the open-coast coves farther east: boats, the river entrance and the village landscape are part of the view.

Choose it for a beach day that can include Ferragudo’s lanes and a meal without a second long drive. The sand has beach services and water-sport activity, so choose a bathing space away from launch corridors. Arrive with time to settle in rather than treating it as a quick stop between several coves.

Parking & arrival

VisitPortugal lists outdoor parking. Use signed parking serving Praia Grande and allow for the walk from the car to your chosen beach entrance. No parking price or guaranteed space is implied.

The route to the sand

Approach from Ferragudo and use the marked pedestrian beach entrances. Beach services are spread along the sand, so agree a specific entrance for a taxi drop-off.

Accessibility

A continuous step-free route to the sea is not established by the primary visitor listing. Discuss the actual entrance and sand access if mobility support matters.

Facilities at the beach

  • Showers
  • Beach bar
  • Restaurant
  • Sunshade hire
  • Small-craft hire

Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.

The water & lifeguards

The river-mouth setting does not remove tides, currents or vessel movements. Stay inside the marked swimming zone and keep clear of water-sport routes.

Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
