A day at Praia dos Olhos de Água.
Olhos de Água takes its name from the freshwater springs that appear among the rocks and sand at low tide. The beach is tucked below the village, with limestone formations at its edges and restaurants looking out towards the water. It has the feel of a coastal neighbourhood rather than a large isolated resort beach.
Come for an easy pairing of village life, lunch and time beside the sea. Exploring the exposed shoreline can be interesting, but the tide determines how much of the rocky edge is visible. Keep your return on the formal village approach rather than treating a low-water gap into another bay as a dependable walking connection.
Parking & arrival
Outdoor parking is listed. Approach through Olhos de Água village following beach signs and use marked parking; the streets nearest the seafront also carry pedestrians and service traffic.
The route to the sand
The beach is signed from Albufeira and the EN125, with a paved route through the village. The municipality lists both ramp and stair access onto the sand.
Accessibility
VisitPortugal lists an accessible beach. Choose the marked ramp entrance, and distinguish it from the rocky low-tide shoreline and nearby stepped coves.
Facilities at the beach
- Showers
- Beach bar
- Restaurant
- Sunshade hire
Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.
The water & lifeguards
Follow the flags and keep clear of cliff bases. Rock pools and freshwater springs are for careful shoreline observation, not evidence of safe swimming conditions.
Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
