A day at Praia dos Pescadores, Albufeira.
Praia dos Pescadores is directly in front of central Albufeira, east of Peneco on the same long seafront. Its name reflects the fishing boats that once occupied much of the beach, many of which now use the modern harbour. It is one of the simplest places to combine the Old Town with a few hours by the sea.
A wide choice of bars and restaurants sits in the town behind the beach. That convenience makes it a different proposition from an isolated cove: you can leave the car in town, walk down and make lunch part of the day. Agree a specific entrance or meeting point, because the central beaches continue into one another along the shore.
Parking & arrival
Use legal town parking. VisitPortugal’s town guide suggests parking near the municipal buildings and using the escalators towards Pescadores, rather than driving into the narrow historic centre.
The route to the sand
The sand has pedestrian access from the town’s lower central area. There are additional approaches from higher streets, including the escalator route described in the tourism guide.
Accessibility
VisitPortugal lists an accessible beach. Choose the lower town approach and marked access provision; the hills and stairs elsewhere in Albufeira are separate barriers.
Facilities at the beach
- Beach bar
- Restaurant
- Sunshade hire
Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.
The water & lifeguards
Follow the bathing-zone flags and keep any boat corridors clear. A busy central beach still needs close supervision of children at the water’s edge.
Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
