A day at Praia Grande de Pêra.
Praia Grande de Pêra stretches east of the resort, between the Alcantarilha stream and the Salgados lagoon. The dunes and open sand give it a more natural feel than the built-up waterfront immediately to the west. This is Praia Grande in Silves municipality, distinct from the beach of the same name at Ferragudo.
Its length is a reason to choose a particular access and beach-service area rather than simply aiming for the general name. A walk near the dunes and lagoon can complement a beach visit, but keep to established paths through the sensitive habitat. The scale of the beach allows a different kind of day from the small cliff coves farther west.
Parking & arrival
Outdoor parking is listed by VisitPortugal. Use the designated parking serving your chosen beach access. Do not drive onto dune tracks or assume a road follows the entire shore.
The route to the sand
Use the marked approaches across the dune edge. The beach is extensive, so decide which entrance serves the facilities and return journey you want.
Accessibility
VisitPortugal lists an accessible beach. Accessibility applies to the equipped access area, not to the full length of sand or every dune path.
Facilities at the beach
- Beach bar
- Restaurant
- Sunshade hire
- Small-craft hire
Beach concessions and equipment hire are seasonal. The village or resort has a wider choice than the sand itself.
The water & lifeguards
Keep away from stream and lagoon outlets and use supervised bathing areas. Follow dune fencing and rock-free does not mean current-free.
Lifeguard cover is seasonal, not year-round. Use the staffed bathing area and follow the flags displayed on the day.
