What to expect
The chapel is connected with the fort that once protected this side of Carvoeiro’s bay. Rebuilding and restoration have changed both the religious structure and its surroundings, so the present site should be understood as a layered coastal landmark rather than an intact seventeenth-century fortress.
Its position above the village makes it easy to combine with a look over the beach and the start of the cliffside promenade. The approach involves the sloping route between the upper headland and the village centre, while interior access depends on local religious arrangements.
Planning your visit
- The chapel is on the headland above the beach, reached by the Rampa da Encarnação area.
- Stay within the established public paths around the cliff-edge setting.
