What to expect
The eighteenth-century Carmelite convent preserves features of its earlier life, including its chapel and lookout tower. The surviving complex gives a fuller impression of a former religious community than the isolated churches elsewhere in Lagoa.
Today it is a cultural venue rather than a working convent to visit as a monastic community. Exhibitions and events can shape the experience, so pair the architecture with whatever programme is taking place instead of expecting an unchanging religious museum display.
