What to expect

The former convent changed religious orders during its history and was heavily altered by earthquake damage and later urban redevelopment. Its surviving church fragments include the Gothic entrance, where carved capitals and the star above the doorway reward a closer look.

This is a remnant of a convent, not an intact monastery with cloisters and rooms to tour. Its position in Loulé makes it a useful detail on a town walk, especially when comparing the medieval fabric with later churches and the streets outside the old walls.

Planning your visit

  • Expect surviving architectural fragments rather than a complete convent interior.
  • Keep the surrounding streets clear when stopping to look at the doorway.
